The idea of establishing a children's museum took shape in 1971 during the renewal of the Frankfurt Historical Museum and its approach "Arts for All". Its goal was to bring the museum visitors of tomorrow closer to the museum at an early age. Just weeks after the reopening of the Historical Museum, the Children's Museum opened its doors on November 7, 1972. Since then, the Children's Museum has been a successful, integral part of the cultural youth scene in Frankfurt. The Museum is a meeting point for children and families the whole year round. In addition to its changing exhibits the printing workshop, arts and crafts courses, birthday parties, and diverse other activities are firmly anchored in the annual program of the museum.

Children’s Museum is now the Young Museum

A large orange M * points the way directly to the Frankfurt Young Museum, with spaces on levels 0, 2, and 3 in the renovated historic buildings of the Historical Museum.  After nearly ten years at the Hauptwache, the museum has now returned to its original space, and after more than 45 years given itself a new name: the Children's Museum has now become the Young Museum.
